Define Database Links and explain its types.

1. Database links provide a one –way communication from Oracle Database to another database server. For example, a person having a link from server X to Y, then he can access data of Y, but people using server Y cannot access data of X from the same link that is available for X to Y.
2. It also provides remote access to the data but for this, all databases must have a unique name within the network.

Types of Data Links

1. Connected user link: Users connect to the remote database with their same identities, thus they must have the same ID and Password as their local system.
2. Fixed user link: A network is being fixed and username and password are being provided within the link.
3. Current user link: A user is allowed to join as a global user without storing the password in the link definition. It is a part of Oracle Advanced Security.

Describe Hash Clusters.

1. A hash cluster is an alternative to non-clustered tables with the index or index cluster. The rows of the tables are being saved physically in the hash clusters and a hash key is allotted to each row. Then each row can be accessed using a hash function.
2. The numeric values called hash values, is generated by the Oracle Database with help of the hash function with respect to each cluster or hash key.
3. Cluster key is entered in the hash function then the resulting hash value corresponds to the memory block in the hash cluster, then editing of data can be done.

What is subquery and explain its types.

1. Nesting of SQL queries can be termed as sub-query, that is, a query within a query.
2. A subquery can be placed within another subquery, a hierarchy of queries can be created by using it.
3. Generally, another Select statement is being embedded within one Select statement.

Types of Subqueries:

1. Single row subquery: they return a single row as output.
2. Multiple row subquery: they return multiple row output, generally operators like IN, ALL, etc. are used with it.
3. Correlated subquery: they depend on the data being provided by the outer query, it generally uses operator EXISTS.

Cold Backup:

1. It is done when the database is not in use by any user.

3. All data files are being copied to the server in that idle time.
4. By blocking user data changes in the data are being stopped during the process of copying data.

Hot Backup:

1. It is done when the database is used by users.
2. Backup of data is done in live mode.
3. Initially, a copy data is being made in the buffer than that data is transferred to the server if the process was complete.
4. The backup is done automatically on small intervals (maybe 2-3 seconds).
5. The backup process is again initiated whenever a change is done on the data.
