Benefits of Grid Computing

Two distinct core tenets set grid computing apart from other forms of computing, such as mainframe and client-server computing. The tenets are virtualization and provisioning.

1. Virtualization enables distinct resources such as computers, disks, application components and information sources to be grouped together by type. This is then made available to users such as people or software programs through an abstraction. Virtualization means breaking hard-coded connections between providers and consumers of resources and preparing a resource to serve a particular need without the consumer caring how that is accomplished.
2. Provisioning enables allocation of resources when consumers request resources through a virtualization layer, a specific resource is recognized to satisfy the request and then it is allocated to the consumer.

List the Schema Objects

A schema is a gathering of logical structures of data or schema objects. A schema is owned by a database user and has the same name as that user. Each user will own a single schema. Schema objects can be generated and manipulated with SQL and consists of the following types of objects:

Schema objects are nothing but logical data storage structures and they do not have a one-to-one correspondence to physical files on disk that store their information. However, Oracle stores a schema object logically within a tablespace of the database

A system global area (SGA) is a group of shared memory structures that contain data and control information for one Oracle database instance. If multiple users are simultaneously linked to the same instance, then the data in the instance's SGA is shared among the users. Consequently, the SGA is sometimes called the shared global area.

An SGA and Oracle processes make up an Oracle instance. Oracle automatically allocates memory for an SGA when you start an instance, and the operating system reclaims the memory when you shut down the instance. Each instance has its own SGA.

The SGA is read/write. All users linked to a multiple-process database instance can read information present within the instance's SGA, and multiple processes write to the SGA during execution of Oracle.

The SGA contains the following data structures:

4. Redo log buffer
5. Java pool
6. Streams pool

Describe the benefits of Oracle client/server architecture in a distributed processing environment.

Oracle client/server architecture in a distributed processing environment provides the following benefits:

1. Client applications are not responsible for the execution of any data processing. Instead, they request input from users, data from the server, and later analyze and present this data utilizing the display capabilities of the client workstation such as using graphics or spreadsheets.
2. Client applications don’t rely on the physical location of the data. Even if the data is moved or distributed to other database servers, the application continues to work with minimal alteration.
3. Oracle leverages the multitasking and shared memory facilities of its underlying operating system which delivers the high degrees of data integrity, concurrency, and performance to its client applications.
4. Client workstations or terminals can be optimized for the presentation of data such as providing graphics and mouse support, and the server can be optimized for the processing and storage of data
5. In networked environments, consumers can use inexpensive client workstations to access the remote data of the server effectively.
6. If necessary, Oracle can be scaled as your system grows both horizontally and vertically.
7. In networked environments, shared data is stored on the servers instead of all computers in the system which makes it easier and more efficient to manage concurrent access.

Explain the integrity constraints and keys in Oracle DBA

Integrity Constraints

An integrity constraint is a declarative way to define a business rule for a column of a table. An integrity constraint is a statement or declaration about table data that is always true and that meets these rules:

1. If an integrity constraint is built for a table and some existing table data does not meet the constraint, then the constraint cannot be enforced.
2. Post defining a constraint, if any of the results of a DML statement don’t meet the integrity constraint, then the statement is rolled back, and an error is returned.

Integrity constraints are defined with a table and are stored as part of the table's definition in the data dictionary so that every database application adheres to the same set of rules. When a rule changes, it only needs to be modified once at the database level and several times for each application.

Keys

Keys are utilized in the definitions of various forms of integrity constraints. A key is the column or group of columns included in the definition of particular forms of integrity constraints. Keys explain the relationships between the various tables and columns of a relational database.

The features in Oracle 12C are as follows:

1. Pluggable Databases through Database Consolidation:
   This feature is introduced by Oracle to address the problem of Multi-Tenancy. This is a radical and major change in the core database architecture through the introduction of Container Databases also called CDB and Pluggable Databases (PDB). Another interesting feature is that one can allocate a CPU percentage for each PDB.
2. Redaction Policy: Data Redaction, simply put, refers to masking of data. One can setup a Data Redaction policy, such as an SSN field in an Employee table which can be masked.
3. Top-N Query and Fetch and offset Replacement to Rownum: Oracle has introduced a new SQL syntax to simplify fetching the first few rows. The new SQL syntax "Fetch First X Rows only" can be utilized.
4. Adaptive Query Optimization and Online Stats Gathering: It helps the optimizer to make runtime adjustments to execution plan which contributes to better stats with this feature.
5. Restore a Table easily through RMAN: Previously if one had to restore a particular table, one had to do all sorts of things like restoring a tablespace and or execute Export and Import. The new restore command in RMAN simplifies this task.
6. Size Limit on Varchar2, NVarchar2, Raw Data Types increased: The previous limit on these data types was 4000 bytes. It has been increased to 32,767 bytes in 12C. The data is stored in the line up to 4000 bytes.
7. Inline PL/SQL Functions and Procedures: The inline feature is extended in Oracle 12C meaning in addition to Views, users can now have PL/SQL Procedures and Functions as in line constructs. This will be a great feature for the developers to explore as there is no code that needs to be compiled.
8. Generated as Identity/Sequence Replacement: Users can currently generate a col with 'generated as identity' clause and doing this is equal to creating a separate sequence and doing a sequence.nextval for each row.
9. Multiple Indexes on a Single Column: A column could not be in more than one index previous to 12C. In this one can include a column in B-tree index as well as a Bitmap index. But, it has to be noted that only one index is usable at a given time.
10. Online Migration of Table Partition or Subpartition: This feature allows one to effortlessly migrate a partition or subpartition from one tablespace to another.
11. In Database Archiving: This feature enables archiving rows within a table by marking them as inactive and they can be optimized using compression but are not visible to the application
